Readleif has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no server of its own. What you save stays on your devices and in your own iCloud.

The browser extension

The Readleif extension for Firefox and Chrome:

reads the page in the current tab only when you click its toolbar button, and only that tab;
extracts the article from it (the address, title, author, text and a picture of the page) and shows you a preview;
when you press Save, hands that article to the Readleif app on the same computer through a readleif:// link.

It sends nothing to any server, stores nothing, and does not see any page you have not clicked it on.

Your library (your articles and settings) is stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for Readleif, it syncs between your devices through your private iCloud database, which Softleif cannot access.
Saving a link makes the app load that page from its website, the way a browser would, and the pictures in it.
Discussions: when you reach the end of an article, the app asks Hacker News (via Algolia), Lobsters and Bluesky whether anyone has discussed that article's address. Nothing is asked before you get there.
Listening and translating run on your device, using speech models bundled with the app and Apple's on-device frameworks.
